University of Nantes (LINA, UMR CNRS 6241)

The Laboratoire Informatique de Nantes Atlantique (LINA) is a research laboratory in Computer Science created in 2004. It gathers 165 members (including 80 PhD students) divided into 10 teams. Associated to the CNRS (French National Centre for Scientific Research), the University of Nantes (UN) and the École des Mines de Nantes , the LINA equally hosts two projects from INRIA, the French National Institute for Research in Computer Science and Control. The LINA’s scientific project is to develop an international cluster in Software Sciences with two main research axes:

  • Distributed Software Architectures,
  • and Decision Making Help Systems.

Department contributing to the project: the Natural Language Processing Team

The Natural Language Processing team belongs to the research axis Decision Making Help Systems. It consists of 10 half-time research staff, 9 PhD students and 2 post-doctoral fellowships. The NLP team is interested in fundamental and applied research in relation with lexicon, syntax and semantics of written texts, with a special focus on multilingualism and multimedia. It develops mixed analysis methods and multilingual NLP analysis engines inside the Unstructured Information Management Architecture framework (UIMA). In regard to automatic terminology processing, f works out methods for identifying multi-word terms and the relations structuring them, and for analyzing the behaviour of these terms and their alternative forms.
